So, How’s It Taste Gets a Makeover!

It’s been a little quiet around the blog lately because So, How’s It Taste got a makeover! I’ve been dying to reveal that this was going on behind the scenes and the new look went live yesterday! The biggest change you’ll start to see is that I’m transitioning from being a food blog to more of a lifestyle blog.

What does that mean?

You’ll still see food posts (don’t worry!), but you’re going to see a lot more non-food content like posts on fashion, beauty, everyday life, travel, and blogging tips. I’ve been slowly writing those posts here and there, but they never appeared on the homepage…now they will. You can also find these non-food posts by accessing Life, Style, and Travel at the top of my website. I know this won’t appeal to some of you, but it’s how my blog is evolving. I hope you stick around, but understand if you no longer choose to be a reader.

Will you change your blog name?

Maybe. I’ve gone through a million ideas and nothing fits just yet. I’m also not ready to let go of So, How’s It Taste…but stay tuned on this one!

What else is new?

Responsive Design – Now So, How’s It Taste can be easily viewed and used on any device. No more zooming in to browse around the site! It works great on desktops, tablets, and phones. The majority of my viewers are using mobile devices and now it should be much easier to navigate and search.

Featured Post Slider – At the top of the home page, you’ll see a cool new slider feature. I’ll be highlighting a few posts depending on seasons, hot topics, or really just whatever mood I’m in. This is a great way for you to see older posts that are still relevant…and I think it looks cool.

Recipe Index – The Recipes page still has my posts listed by category and ingredients, but now non-food posts are filtered out. You’ll also find a new section where recipes are categorized by occasions such as Christmas, Halloween, baby showers, and tailgate parties. I’ve narrowed down my categories, too, so it’s easier to find what you’re searching for.

Email Subscriptions – In the past you were able to choose between receiving all posts no matter the category or only food-related posts. Now I’m offering only one option – all posts. This is to move more inline with my transition into a lifestyle blog and not just food. I hope you keep your email subscription, but if not, it’s very easy to cancel it.

I have to give HUGE THANK YOU to two of my coworkers, especially Josh who put up with my pickiness for months. They’re my techie nerds (I mean that as a compliment!) and never failed to make all of my wishes with this blog happen. Believe me, there were many! I can’t thank them enough for all the hard work and hours that went into this and I am so thrilled with how it turned out. Perhaps I should bake them a cake, yes?

I’m very excited to share posts with you on more than just food and can’t wait to see how this blog continues to grow. It’s cool to have this little space on the internet for almost six years and see how it has changed. I hope you enjoy the new features and I appreciate any feedback. Thanks for being a reader!

I thought long and hard before writing this post. Did I really want to use my blog to call out a company? Did I really want to potentially burn a bridge with one of the biggest food companies out there? After giving plenty of opportunities for them to make things right, and getting nothing but ignored, the answer was yes.

In late January I was contacted by Alexa Stark from Martha Stewart. Yep, Martha, freaking, Stewart. I couldn’t have been more excited to have landed on their radar with this little blog of mine.

I was approached by Alexa to see if I wanted to receive a copy of their Clean Slate cookbook, plus the Martha Stewart white dishware collection, in exchange for a blog post.

Of course I wanted to learn more! (Hello, who wouldn’t?)

It’s hard to believe in just five months this blog will be FIVE. My how time flies when you’re stuffing your face! It’s also hard to believe in these almost five years that I’ve never done a reader survey. While I have my own goals for this blog and it’s gone through some redesign and feature changes recently, I want to hear from you! My little space on the web has evolved over the years and it’s not just my space anymore, it’s yours, too!

I want to find out more about you, what you love and don’t love about So, How’s It Taste, and what you’d like to see more of on the blog. New Feature: Recipe Box, Shopping List, and Meal Planner

Update: As of December 10, 2014, Ziplist is discontinuing their service and these features will no longer be available on So, How’s It Taste.

I’m very excited to share with you a new feature on So, How’s It Taste that I know you’re going to love! I’ve partnered with ZipList to bring you a recipe box, shopping list, and meal planner all in one! In the menu above, you’ll find the new Recipe Box.

This feature lets you save recipes from this blog, and pretty much anywhere on the web, to your own recipe box. Select Recipe Box and you’ll see all the recipes you’ve saved so far. You can easily organize them in list or tile view, and sort them alphabetically or by recently added. When you’re ready to buy the ingredients for any of your saved recipes, you can move the ingredients into your Shopping List. It’ll prompt you for items it thinks you may have already (like flour, sugar, etc).

A new look!

A few months shy of three years ago, So, How’s It Taste got its first major facelift. I moved to WordPress, got a much more user-friendly site, and a fancy header. Today I want to welcome you to an all new, even snazzier So, How’s It Taste! (If you’re viewing this post in your RSS reader or email, you’ll want to head over to the blog to check it out!)

I wanted So, How’s It Taste to have more color and fun to match my personality. I kept a little bit of the old as you’ll see the “Taste” is the same in the header, but said goodbye to the spice spoons. (It surprises me how many folks are missing the spoons!)

On to the new features…

You’ll still have easy access to categories and archives on the right side as before. You’ll also find ways to connect with me on social media, now including Instagram and Google+.

At the end of each post, you’ll discover easier ways to share if you like what you see. Share the post directly with your social medium of choice.

Discover Content

At the end of each post, you’ll also see links to related content making it easier to discover previous posts from So, How’s It Taste that you may have missed.

While I’m really excited to share more with you that’s not related to food, I’m well aware that some of you may be thinking, “Keep it to the food, yo.” No problem! A brand new look!

Ta da! Welcome to the new So, How’s It Taste! What started out as a little hobby is all grown up. It was time for a new look and better organization, and it’s finally here! A huge thank you to the amazing talent of Purr Design (who you may recognize as my fellow foodie Lindsay from Love & Olive Oil)!

You’ll find categories to the right. So if you’re hungry for pasta, need an appetizer for a party, or crave chocolate, it’ll all be one click away. There’s also a new area where I’ll highlight seasonal or favorite recipes. Check out “healthy resolutions” for figure-friendly dishes to jump start your new year!

You can now subscribe to So, How’s It Taste by email! Every time there’s a new post, it will be delivered to your inbox. You’ll never miss a delicious eat or restaurant report.
