It’s cocktail time on a Wednesday! I’m still grinning from ear to ear thinking about my recent trip to New York City, so since I’m in a great mood, let’s talk about booze! We had this Cherry Limeade Cocktail during the holidays, but its flavors would also work great on upcoming warmer days. Anyone else so ready for Spring? Iced cake vodka, fresh lime juice, cherry juice, and Sprite. It’s simple, slightly sweet, slightly tart, and dangerously delicious.

Crimson Spice Champagne Cocktail

I love meal planning, especially this time of year for holiday dinners. I always try to have a signature cocktail and this year was no different, although I think I made the best one yet! I picked Crimson Spice Champagne Cocktail for a few reasons. One, I was really curious about making a syrup from cranberry juice cocktail and wanted to see how it would turn out with the aromatics. Two, I’ve never used star anise. Three, the Iron Bowl was Thanksgiving weekend and well, the name and color just kind of fit.

Nutella Melt

I love hot cocoa. I have it year round regardless of the temperature outside, but I love it most when it’s this time of year and freezing out. I get all cozy on my couch under my heated throw and wrap my hands around a big, warm mug of it. Add a good movie and we’re talking Best. Night. Ever. If you’re a fan of hot cocoa, then I’m about to be your best friend for introducing you to the Nutella Melt. The recipe sounds amazing already, but it is nothing compared to the taste. This is the most decadent and luxurious mug of cocoa you will ever drink. It has Nutella, so enough said there, but it’s also spiked with Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur), topped with homemade espresso whipped cream, and garnished with a sprinkling of coconut and hazelnuts. <>

Orange Crush

You may remember that a few weekends back my friend Shannon from Bake. Frost. Repeat. came to visit me in Nashville and we ate in a bunch of new spots around town. When we were planning her trip, I asked her what Tennessee’s signature cocktail was for football games and to my surprise (more like shock and horror), they don’t have one! What?! Alabama has several, most notably being the Yellow Hammer, so I took it on as my mission to find a cocktail for those UT fans. Despite my feelings for their football team, no team should be left without a signature cocktail! My version of the Orange Crush was born and I must admit I did a pretty bang up job. It’s a lovely shade of UT orange, it’s absolutely delicious, and goes down dangerously easy. For UT fans, it’s perfect. It’s orange and you’re crushing it. For non-UT fans is perfect. Think of it as you’re crushing the big orange. Now everyone can enjoy this on game day!

Ginger Julep

Oh how I love a good cocktail. No matter where I am drinking one, even if it’s on my couch, I feel like I’m somewhere special having a grand time. It could be simple like my go to Jack & Coke, or you can get fancy, like this Ginger Julep! I adore mint juleps and this one takes that classic drink and spices it up with ginger. There’s also a touch of orange juice to round out the flavors. The drink starts by making your own ginger-mint syrup. It’s really quite easy to make simple syrups and the flavor possibilities are endless. This one has mint, ginger, and orange peel. Once your syrup is ready and cooled, pour it in a glass with orange juice and good bourbon. Garnish with crushed ice and more mint and you’ve got one fancy cocktail! (Even if you’re like me and drink it on the couch in your yoga pants.)

Another year is winding down, so I thought it would be fun to take a look back through So, How’s It Taste in 2013. I’ve never done one of these top 10 lists before and it was really interesting to see what posts were your favorites. I also made a top 10 of my personal favorites from this year. Narrowing it down to only 10 was a tough job!

1. Taco Spaghetti – This completely surprised me that it was the most popular! It’s such a simple dish and sounds kind of crazy. I’m glad to find out you all enjoyed this dish as much as I do.

2. Fun Healthy Lunches – This one was such a fun post. I’m actually making these lunches again since it’s after the holidays and I’m ready to eat a little more clean. Detox!

3. Banana Pudding Poke Cake – You can never go wrong with a pudding poke cake!

Blackberry Pear Cider Arnold Palmer

I can’t even read the title of this post without getting tongue tied. Blackberry Pear Cider Arnold Palmer. Say it slowly, or say it three times fast for a fun drinking game! See, there’s always a bright side! If you’re not familiar, an Arnold Palmer is half tea, half lemonade. I like to spruce it up from time to time with alcohol. I mostly stick to adding whiskey, but a project had me thinking a completely different route…cider. This fun cider project started when my friend Alexandra from Sweet Betweens posted about a dinner she attended with pairings from Crispin Cider. She had the fun idea to contact Crispin and ask if they’d be on board with us developing a few recipes using their products. They agreed and the fun in the kitchen began! I’ve always been a fan of the Arnold Palmer, and thinking about the lemonade part of it, I thought it would pair well with other fruits. Apple of course from the cider, but I really wanted to do something with their Fox Barrel Blackberry Pear flavored cider. It’s a lot going on, but who doesn’t like a pitcher full of fruit-flavored goodness in the summer?
