We honeymooned in Key West and I still have my purple tank top from Blue Heaven! And I still remember all the cats and chickens. 😉 We also ate at Kelly’s. Now I want to go back to the Keys!

I have always sworn by Publix’s pie and it’s spot on! Mainland pie is not different from Key West at all (except for the weird versions we had in Key West). Publix could compete right up there with these!

Second–so are you ruined for key lime pie elsewhere now? I’ve only had it in Destin and from Publix and I liked both, but I’m afraid if I ever have the real thing, the imitations just won’t do. How do these compare to mainland key lime pies you’ve had?

Yes! We didn’t have any there, but I’ve made that before and wowza. So good!

Right?! I was so sick to be back when I was working on this post. Yes, they still have the chocolate dipped on a stick! The pieces looked huge and we were constantly stuffed, so we skipped those. I’ve made some before and they are amazing! Glad I’m in good company with the no meringue. 🙂

The Yankee and I honeymooned in the Keys. Our favorite was the chocolate covered frozen key lime pie. OMG.

I was there 5 years ago and ate at Pepe’s and Blue Heaven and loved them both. And, if I remember correctly, had frozen key lime pie on a stick (CHOCOLATE DIPPED, Y’ALL!) from the Key Lime Pie Factory (or some place similar). It was SO. FREAKING. GOOD. So good that I went through the hassle, a few months later, of making a key lime pie (no meringue, thankyouverymuch), slicing it, stabbing the slices with popsicle sticks, freezing the slices, dipping them in chocolate, freezing them again ALL BEFORE EATING THEM myself. Homemade was pretty darn good but I would give my kingdom for a slice from Key West right now.
